Deer Park North Primary School make fish for the mural

On Monday 11th August, Children from Deer Park North Primary School made fish for our mural.
Here are our fish!
These fish will be swimming in the Kororoit Creek part of the mural.

Debbie or Miss Fleur cuts the shapes for us and then we smooth the edges and paint our fish.

2nd Huntclub workshop

The second workshop at the Huntclub Community Arts Centre was held on Wednesday the sixth of August. Our task was to illustrate some of the historical moments of DeerPark. Below are the wonderful ceramic artworks made.

All of the works below have not been fired so the paints look dull. After firing and a layer of glaze the colours will be brighter.

St Peter Chanel students make plants

Grade four students have made some plants for the mural.
The plants are native to the area.

kangaroo apple

moonflowers,
native bluebells
billy buttons

WoW! aren't they amazing.
We also had a special guest in this class and her name was Wambui.  Wambui works for Brimbank Council as a Community Engagement Officer and she has been busy organising the mural for us.
Thankyou Wambui!
Can you remember ( or guess) which plants Wambui made?

St Peter Chanel Students make trees

These trees are red river gums which used to live down along Kororoit Creek.
Some of the original trees had scars in them from where the Wurundjeri people had carved out a strip of the bark for their canoes.

Year 6 students made these trees
Aren't they wonderful and all so different!
Some students made the trees individually, whilst others worked in teams. They all used different ways of making the tree trunks and foliage.

after making their tree out of clay, the students could paint the trees with liquid underglazes.
these are colours that can survive being fired at 1000 degrees in the kiln.
The colours will come out very bright after they have been glazed and fired a second time.

workshop at the Huntclub Community Arts Centre Tuesday evening

At this workshop Tony and I made some historical pieces for the mural.
